Effective Dental Interventions: Why Dentists Should Do The Right Thing

Too many people have had an experience where a dental office simply does too much.

Does too much? How is that possible?

The answer has to do with how dentistry works, and what long-term impact interventions can have on your teeth.

Filling and Drilling

One of the earliest interventions is the filling of a small or medium-sized cavity.

When tooth decay exists, its extent is often kind of a gray area that's interpretable by professionals.

So some dentists will be more aggressive with drilling and take out more of the tooth, in order to fill a smaller cavity.

But some dentists will even grind teeth down to the point that they need a bigger intervention, a root canal in most cases, to actually deaden the nerve and a crown to protect the interior of the tooth.

Root Canal Problems

Here's the problem – root canals are painful and expensive, and can lead to the deterioration and eventual extraction of the tooth.

So where a dentist simply applied the broadest solution, people often experience miserable problems later in life with their teeth.

So the dentist’s goal should be to explore the most effective and least intrusive intervention.

At Jacas Family Dental, we take care to pursue these kinds of interventions daily with families, and pediatric and adult patients – in a way that works for each of our wonderful visitors. Our customer service dedication means that we have your best interest in mind, and treat you the way we would want to be treated if we were in the dentist chair!

On the other hand, some shops just really turn people off. Here's where people often talk about suspicion of dental offices and the kind of cynicism that goes along with this experience.

Part of this seems to be related to the financial difficulty of paying for dental services. For most people, these are not covered, and they need to pay out-of-pocket. Even people with insurance may pay significant money to get teeth fixed. So they want to be sure that they're doing it in the most affordable way.

Situations where dentists unnecessarily tear down teeth have really aggravated people with these kinds of problems, because it's actually more cost for less effective long-term treatment, or to put it another way, the fixes end up costing more money down the road. So come down to Jacas Family Dental, where we put you and your family first.
